About Me

My name is Bart Gershen

I am a graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine, finished my internal medicine residency and my cardiology fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital, and practiced non-invasive cardiology for 45 years. During most of those years I also taught at the George Washington University School of Medicine, retiring as a Clinical Professor of Medicine in 2003.

This site is devoted to word derivations, and is based on my monthly column "Word Rounds", which I have written for Maryland Medicine over the last 20 years. Since those essays were designed for a physician audience, they contain many medical terms. However, I have attempted to relate them to non-medical words whenever possible. I hope these articles will be of interest not only to physicians, but to the general public as well.

In addition, I am an amateur photographer, and will post some of my work from time to time. I hope they will please you.
